RED - Epilogue (short story) [GL]

Epilogue

The following Monday, the two friends met during lunch at school to discuss about their campaign’s developments.
“The reports are good.” Axelle beamed proudly.

“Yeah, I hope we can sustain it.” Leila took a sip of her yogurt drink with enthusiasm.

“More people are participating. If this continues, we can loop in other schools in the project.” Axelle snickered at her idea while taking a bite of an apple Leila peeled for her.

“Oh, that bandage... you still have it,” Leila teased her friend upon recognizing the bandage on her left ring finger.

Well of course, this silly girl, Axelle mused.

“So, is that all?” Excitement was evident in Leila’s voice in wrapping up the meeting.

“Yep. And that means more time to...” Axelle pulled out something from her lunch bag and showed it to the girl across her. “Surprise!” She grinned.

“Wahhhhh it’s sooo cuuuuuute!” The surprised girl held the wolf stuffed toy high before hugging it.

“I suppose you liked it?” Smile didn’t leave Axelle as she congratulated herself for a job well done.

“I think I’m liking wolves now,” the kid-like girl remarked with a wide smile.

“Well, what a foolish thing to do,” Axelle replied in her cool voice.

“Geez, not all wolves are bad you know.” Leila stuck out her tongue in defense.

“You sound so sure.” The protector grinned smugly.

“Oh yeah, ‘cause I know some. Like the wolf in white shirt, remember? And...” There was a playful smile on Leila as she replayed a scene in her mind.

“In that case... I am a wolf too—a wolf that lures her prey into its territory—and probably—wants to eat her too,” were the words that came out of her red lips that night; the sweetest lips attested by a certain wolf, sitting at the other side.
